PSA 1.2 EB2DT 'HNZ' Puretech Engine Full Disassembly
A full teardown of a PSA (Peugeot/Citroen) Puretech 1.2 turbo engine removed from a Citroen DS3
With 60,000 miles on the clock this one had suffered from a broken timing belt but also displayed some symptoms of oil starvation in certain areas most likely due to the oil pump pickup being filled with bits of broken timing belt.
This engine was essentially scrap, not one that was going to be rebuilt and my mate left it round to let me do this disassembly video. Hence why some parts are removed a bit rougher than would be desirable if the engine was going to be reused, nonetheless it should give an overview of what is inside these engines and possibly how they fail.

    I have clio 1.2 16v 2001. while driving, my engine revs stop at 1900. I turn off the engine with the key, and when I turn the ignition back on, the car continues to stop revs if I don't press the gas. if I give gas, the engine accepts the pedal. and continue to run fine until the next transmission shift. then it blocks the gas again

    Doing some job. Hopefully this will sort knocking sound when going trough bumps or rough road because there is nothing else left to change i hope its the struts 😑😑😑 Also when i took the shock out somehow drive shaft managed to move and i lost about 1l of gearbox oil 😑😑😑😑

    Thanks for the movie! I have a USDM 2007 Honda Fit GD3 with 165k miles and the clutch is starting to slip once warmed up and driving aggressively. After a rapid clutch release from stop, the car moves fine but in 3rd, 4th, 5th gear I can rev engine high with no change in speed (slipping). Going to attempt this clutch job without a lift in a month here. Hopefully it lasts until then. What shop manual did you use for all the torque specs?

    I've watched this twice. Yet I am wondering what that bloc in front of the heater core where you unplugged the big electrical connector? I am trying to find out where the thermistor is in this car. My A/C and heat are on and off, both work, yet it is erratic. The fans never change speed no matter what the set point temperature is changed to except for low or high.

    Hi. Did you have a cylinder misfire in any of the cylinders? I have a EB2ADTD from a 2020 Peugeot 208 and it's got a misfire on cylinder 3 so I replaced coils and spark from cylinder 2 and its still showing misfire. Done a compression test and cylinder 3 showing next to no compression. Any ideas on this please? Thanks

      Hi there I never heard this engine running, nor did my mate he got the car and had a replacement engine put into it, it was simply not starting. The engine was replaced by another mechanic. The engine was then brought to me to do this video. Regarding your issue, if you are down on compression on cylinder 3 i suppose the only option is to remove the head to inspect the valves.

    for those with a 2012/2013 with a bosch edc17c10_br2 ecu this way does not work for the speed control/cruise: DELIVERY OF VEHICLE TO CUSTOMER>ACCESSORY>CRUISE CONTROL>INSTALLATION OF THE CRUISE CONTROL then follow the instuctions onscreen, enter your vehicles RPO number then enter it again and follow it through then it will activate the cruise control, then go into BSI and do what is done in the video, to turn on the speed restriction setting in the ECU you have to use DIagbox v7.02, it will struggle to recognise the EDC17c10_br2 ecu so you have to manually select them on the screen but then follow the video here and turn it on and then hit the cog button once done you may have to go back into bsi and double check that the cruise control hasnt gone back to cruise control only and that it is on both cruise control and speed limit restrictor

    Awesome detailed information! Refreshing and surprising. 🙂 I'll share my tip: Use silicone gasket to "glue" the EGR gasket to the surface of the valve. Makes assembly /disassemble a breeze the next time he EGR needs cleaning.;-) Tip 2: For the cost of that "EGR clamp", one can buy the appropriate pliers for the original clamp. A bit of search probably will find it cheaper. ;-)

      Hi, it is probably possible to work around the front tyres however i think the improved access that having them out provides, is worth the very small bit of effort that is involved with the removal of the tyres. Certainly from the point of trying to make a video it provides a much clearer view of what is going on if the tyres are removed.

    These engines need an oil 0W-20 PSA B71 2010 specification. At the time they were launched this type of oil was expensive so it was decided to use 0W-30 PSA B71 2312 specification. A good engine with the right oil.

      That same oil spec barely does what it's supposed to do - ie lubricate. It chews the mechanicals voraciously, There is every good reason to prefer the 5W30 over it and drastically reduce the silly drain interval.

      No. Same story as with Ford's EcoBoost engines. Even with propper oil the timing belt peels it self off no matter what. Turbo removal is awkward when engine is inside the car and every timing belt change requires taking the oil pan off and checking the sump as well as vacuum pump. Stupid, stupid design. HP pumps are shit as well in PT engines.

The DV6 though by comparison is a much hardier engine, if they are serviced and the belt is done on time they can cover massive mileages, even the 16v bar the odd bit of oil seepage and turbo issues if really poorly maintained they are excellent. I once wouldn't have touched one but as i mention in the video i have about 8 relatives driving vehicles with this engine.

    Hi! Thanks for your video. I have one question, two of my injectors are leaking: if I turn the ignition on and start the fuel pump I can see fuel dripping from the injectors. These injectors where recently replaced by a workshop, while the original injectors still work good. Do you think they might be failing because they are dirty?

      Hi, i cant remember at this stage as it has been a few years since i worked on this car. Apologies for not making a note of it in the video. As an alternative recommendation perhaps measure the bolt head with a set of vernier callipers or ask on the suzuki alto or nissan pixo owners clubs

    Do you have any vids about the P0403 code. I have a EW10J4 2004 peugeot 406 and used this cheap ELM327 obd2 scanner and got this code. It was the only fault code. And it says its the EGR circuit mulfunction. Any tips how to remove and replace it. On this car its 2x 13mm bolts.

      Hi there Not to sure what that specific code means, bar a cursory google saying it relates to the EGR I never worked on any 4 cylinder petrol 406, just the V6 and only a few jobs What i would recommend is try a more sophisticated obd fault code reader or even better Peugeot planet 2000 and asking on the owners club

      The clios are brilliant at resisting the rust, only area they go is the radiator support bar which is an easy bolt off part.

      HI 55:29 50Nm plus a further angle tighten of 150 degrees is the official workshop spec for that bolt.

      Hi there, I do not think it is, the 2.5 is it not a V6? Im thinking 2.5 TDI they sold here in possibly the A4 and A6 i think they didnt have the best reputation. Or are you on about the 2.5 petrol engine, we never got that here as far as i am aware. VAG stuff isnt really my area of expertise.

    Where is the coolant from the reservoir?

      Hi there, May i ask what do you mean? Fresh coolant was poured into the cooling circuit via the reservoir.

      8:52 there is no coolant in the reservoir. Thats not something you should top up unless there is a leak somewhere

      @@jimbob6290 Ah apologies there is a separate timing belt video (I mistakenly thought that was what was being commented on) a cambelt change was going on at the same time and the way the video has been edited it appears the coolant is low here but i can assure you the car left filled with coolant. I seem to have pulled footage at some point that was during the cambelt change both jobs were done at the same time but edited into separate videos
